Stretching a travel budget without cutting the trip short.
Booking accommodations with a kitchen, even a basic one, can meaningfully cut food costs over a longer trip. Traveling shoulder season instead of peak season often means lower prices on flights, rentals, and accommodations with only a modest tradeoff in weather.
For road trips, a smaller, more fuel-efficient rental car usually saves more over two weeks than the daily rate difference suggests. Track spending loosely as you go so a few pricier days don't sneak up on you toward the end of the trip.
